Subscription renewals remain high - why?

Value for money $$

MDS’ Managing Director Laurie Edwards is absolutely delighted with the high retention and renewal rate of existing subscription licences for MDS’ Digitised Mapping Data & QuickLocate geocoders’ Subscriptions!

Some of the reasons given by customers for continuing their investment with MDS comes down to Quality, Timeliness and Customer Support.  The high quality of the data, updates and documentation is key to every GIS solution. It is, however, the emphasis on timely and accurate customer support that strengthens and continues this partnership with our customers.

"We find the QuickLocate 3 Geocoder to be an essential part of our Route Optimisation project's success and is now an essential software tool assisting our normal business operations.  We also find that it assists in verifying and cleaning up our customer address data - a fantastic "value add" to using the software." Sammy W. - Senior Business Analyst (Transport Industry)

Earthquakes - How Shaky is Australia

Korumburra, south east of Melbourne, has been experiencing a sequence of earthquakes this year.  Does Australia have more earthquakes than we realise?  Is your property safe from the destructive powers of an earthquake?

The ABC News recently ran the headline, "Australians unaware of earthquake risk", which goes some way to answering the question - Read the story

MDS' Natural Hazards Risk Ratings' online service is built with Risk Frontiers, experts in the impact of natural hazards including earthquakes, on individual properties throughout Australia (where data is available).  They quantify a property's exposure based on the Australian building code which describes the risk as the probability of an earthquake returning within a 475 year period.  This is also used by insurers in calculating your premiums.

Foreshocks, Mainshocks and Aftershock.  Risk Frontiers explains the science of earthquakes in their recent Newsletter, read more.

Did you know?

Your neighbours define who you are!

It happens on one night......every 5 years.  It's designed to count the number and key characteristics of people in Australia and the type of dwelling they live in.  The government uses this information for electoral purposes, distributing government funds such as the GST and determining the number of seats allocated to each State and Territory in the House of Representatives.

You guessed it, the Census.  But... did you know...

* Everyone is counted on Census night including international visitors - but excluding Diplomats.

* 150-200 dwellings are grouped together and called a CCD (Census Collection District)

* All data is aggregated to a CCD so it is impossible to identify individuals in any one area (for privacy).

* CCDs and the information they contain support the planning, administration, policy development and evaluation activities of governments and other users.

Demographers and analysis tools such as Tactician Online use CCD's for a number of Geo-Demograhic purposes.  These include:

* Market Research

* Trade Area Analysis

* Target Marketing

* Building Franchise/Sales Territories

* Territory Management

* Site Selection

To find out more about Geo-Demographics and accessing the Census information, please contact Tony Maber on email or +61 2 8436-2845.
